Understanding Anxiety and Depression

Anxiety and depression are common mental health conditions that can significantly impact daily life. Symptoms may include persistent sadness, excessive worry, fatigue, and changes in sleep or appetite. Early intervention and effective treatment are crucial for managing these conditions.

Types of Anxiety

Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)

Characterised by persistent and excessive worry about various aspects of life, such as work, health, or relationships.

Panic Disorder

Involves recurrent panic attacks, which are sudden periods of intense fear or discomfort accompanied by physical symptoms like heart palpitations and shortness of breath.

Social Anxiety Disorder

Marked by an intense fear of social situations and being judged or humiliated in public, leading to avoidance behaviours.

Specific Phobias

Involve extreme fear of specific objects or situations, such as heights, animals, or flying, which are typically avoided.

Treatment Approaches

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT is a highly effective therapy for anxiety and depression. It helps patients identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors, promoting healthier ways of thinking and coping.

Medication Management

Medications, such as antidepressants and anti-anxiety drugs, can be beneficial in managing symptoms. Our psychiatrists work with patients to find the right medication and dosage with minimal side effects.

Mindfulness and Relaxation Techniques

Mindfulness practices and relaxation techniques can help reduce stress and improve emotional regulation. We incorporate these methods into our treatment plans to support mental health.

Supportive Therapy

Supportive therapy provides patients with ongoing emotional support and practical advice for managing daily challenges. This therapy aims to build resilience and improve coping strategies.
